The Building Services (MEP) Lead role is key to the Infrastructure Portfolio of the MPAMOT Africa business. We seek to employ a Discipline Lead in our Johannesburg office to provide both strategic and operational leadership for the MEP teams, whilst also linking closely with other portfolios in our business. The individual appointed will be a member of the Infrastructure Portfolio management team and will report directly to the Infrastructure Portfolio Lead.

With a strong background and pedigree in building services engineering design, the candidate will possess a reputation in the local market with a customer facing BD focus along with commercial management, leadership and technical competencies. Operationally, the candidate is responsible for achieving commercial targets measured by Revenue, Profit and Working Capital (WIP and Debt).

Key performance areas include:

  • Lead and further grow/develop our established design team based in Johannesburg;
  • Take responsibility for the day to day management of those staff, including career development and providing a clear team structure;
  • Provide strong and enthusiastic technical leadership of the design team’s projects;
  • Support the seamless integration of all other building disciplines at project level within the company (C&S, environmental, facades, fire engineering, etc);
  • Oversee successful delivery of projects commercially, directing their progress as necessary;
  • Lead business development activities for the region, including the management of external and internal client relationships;
  • Encourage the use of digital technology to increase efficiency and enable effective sharing of work.

Key qualities include:

  • Have the ability to successfully demonstrate technical (design) skills;
  • Have enthusiasm and a dynamic approach to work;
  • Have an outward facing personality with good interpersonal skills;
  • Be self-motivated with good organisational capability;
  • Appreciate and understand the main SA construction law and contracts;
  • Understand the financial constraints of the SA construction consulting industry;
  • Have strong and effective verbal and written communication skills;
  • Have good client care and development skills;
  • Have the ability to quickly evaluate and rationalise risk;
  • Have flexibility and be willing to question and respond in a positive manner;
  • Be IT literate;
  • Have a strong understanding of BIM; and
  • Have a good knowledge of MEP software and drawing packages.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Be a registered professional engineer, with a minimum BSc Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) degree;
  • Experience of local and regional business development.
  • A broad background of experience in building services design.
  • A willingness to travel on business.
  • A demonstrable track record in winning work and selling the wider services of the company.
  • The ability to demonstrate growth and development of the team.
